Today Johan talked about submission to the Yoke, you can listen to the message titled : Yoke of the Kingdom, on our YouTube channel.
When Yeshua made the statement in Matt 11:28-30, where He said: “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings. For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.” His audience must have recalled the familiar Scripture in Deut 22:10: ”Do not plough with an ox and a donkey together.”
The focus in Matt 11 is not on the yoke, but the one we are called to be yoked with.
How does a farmer teach his young burden bearer, ox, or donkey?
He yokes the young ox with an ox that is trained in the ways of farming. Walking with the older, well-trained animal, the young learn to mimic his behaviour.
To act like he acts, to move when he moves. To react like the older reacts, and above all, getting his ears tuned to the voice of the farmer. The one who is walking behind them, steering the plow, working the soil, and preparing it for planting with a great harvest in mind.
Here we have Yeshua inviting us: walk with Me. I will guide you and teach you to walk in a way that you will hear the voice of our Father. Do not stray or try to do your own thing, learn from my walk and you will not even feel the yoke. The yoke will only be felt if you pull against it.
What an amazing privilege to be invited to be yoked with our perfect Messiah. To not having to learn through error and pain, but through loving guidance. To be a part of the process and prepare a harvest. Seeing the end result of our Yoke bearing. Shining our light on the road back to Eden.
All to the glory of our God!
